Taquanda Roberts, 32, was arrested on Thursday, July 4, the Atlantic City Police Department said in a news release. She was charged with endangering the welfare of a child, eluding, and criminal mischief.

An officer responded to the 700 block of Maryland Avenue about a dispute involving a vehicle being repossessed at 1:34 p.m. After speaking with Roberts and a tow truck driver, Roberts got in her vehicle and sped onto a sidewalk while the officer was verifying information.

Investigators said Roberts hit a parked car and told her children to get in her vehicle. The officer told Roberts to get out of her vehicle but she refused and sped away with the children inside the vehicle.

Roberts then hit another vehicle with a woman driving her four children between one and 10 years old. She left the scene of that crash but was eventually taken into custody by police.

Everyone involved in the crashes was treated at the scenes by paramedics. Roberts was held at the Atlantic County Justice Facility.

Anyone with information about the incident should call the Atlantic City Police Department at 609-347-5744 or text an anonymous tip that begins with "ACPD" to TIP411 (847411).
